FireGento is a group of Magento enthusiasts. We are developing open source modules and organising so-called Hackathons and other events. FireGento is used as a pool for a large part of the Magento community. Since 2013, FireGento is a registered corporation based in Berlin, Germany.
The name “FireGento” was first used in 2011. It was set up by developers of the German Magento agencies Flagbit and ITABS in order to publish non-commercial modules together, without one company being on front. During a developer meetup in the end of 2011, we begun the development of the GermanSetup (now MageSetup) module. As developers of five different companies were involved, we chose a “neutral” name. This was when the name FireGento was becoming well known to a broader audience. Today, MageSetup is seen as a standard for most German speaking shops. More FireGento modules like the FireGento PDF Module and the Magento Composer Installer Project which simplifies the installation and management of external Magento modules considerably followed.
One of the main purposes of the association is the organization of so-called Hackathons which are being held at least three time a year, nowadays more often and worldwide. On those Hackathons, developers meet in order to develop modules and projects for which there isn’t much time or oppertunity in the daily business. Those modules are usually published as open source. The results are available freely at the FireGento Repository or the Magento Hackathon Repository.
